Of course, the reason I posted that eight-wheeled 1977 Cadillac Eldorado the other day was because we’ve been having so much fun envisioning mutant versions of familiar collector cars, and the chief mutator, Andy, aka HarborIndiana, continues to stretch the boundaries of what we even dared consider possible with auto construction. For example, his Avantipede, above, and his 1958 Dodge Sierra six-door wagon with observation deck, below.
Or how about a fairly straightforward cab-forward version of the one-off Mercedes-Benz 600 two-door that Ronan Glon recently wrote about?
Speaking of cab-forward photochops, in addition to a 1961 Imperial, Tyler Linner whipped up the Plymouth Autonomous Delivery System (PADS), “a (fictional) experimental program started in the late 1950′s for Chrysler Corp. to develop a practical unmanned delivery vehicle. Guided by small radio markers on the side of the freeway, it yielded mixed results, exorbitant costs and an unacceptably high crash rate. The project was cancelled in 1964.”
Going off in a completely different direction, Andy decided to bring back the era of luxury sportsters (and literally design a personal luxury car) with his take on the Duesenberg II (above) and a single-seater Lincoln Continental Mark III (below). Also in that series, he envisioned a single-seater Cadillac Eldorado, another Mark III (minus-five, he calls them), a 1970 Lincoln, and a 1967 Eldorado.
Yes, I am encouraging this Dr. Moreau behavior. Keep ‘em coming, guys!
